Case Study – Profiting from a software upgrade

Medium-sized business enjoys 25 percent increase in productivity and achieves ROI in the first year

Wittenstein consists of six independent business units that meet the demands of a variety of industries with products such as servo and elevator drives, servo drive systems, miniature servo motors, highly innovative solutions in the field of medical technology, innovative gear technology and aerospace components. Customers in these target industries insist on the highest quality standards for products as well as for production processes. A growing demand for innovation speeds up the design cycles.

“Our systems and the quality demands of our customers have made it necessary to employ a high-end 3D CAD/CAM/CAE solution from the very beginning,” explains Patric Dinkel, who overseas PDM/CAD operations at Wittenstein. To ensure high-quality drawings, for example, the company needed functions such as collision control for individual parts in an assembly and extremely precise derivatives. It also needed tight CAM integration for ensuring seamless downstream processes such as mechanical manufacturing and assembly. The high demands on product and process quality prompted the PDM/CAD department to perform a detailed analysis aimed at determining the optimization potential of an upgrade to the latest version of NX™ software.

Read this free and informative case study today to learn how Wittenstein NX effectively supported strong growth, high quality standards and, in particular, short innovation cycles and an upgrade to the latest version of NX enabled the use of more advanced technology and offered the chance to achieve an even higher level of overall data consistency with an ROI in the first year.

The average measured time savings in 3D modeling amounted to an amazing 59.8 percent. Discussions with all employees confirmed 25 percent in time savings as the most realistic and practical result. For deriving drawings, time savings of a respectable 20 percent were considered realistic. On the basis of these results, the originally anticipated savings potential more than doubled. The productivity gains reduced the volume of external design services by 42 percent, while significantly reducing internal overtime. In the first year alone, the latest version of NX not only brought a very quick ROI but cost savings that totaled over 100,000 Euros.
